‘Situation doesn’t look great’: Michael Carrick breaks silence on Manchester United’s struggles
New Delhi: winless run extended to six games after a 1-1 draw against Leeds United, leaving the club in the bottom half of the table. The Red Devils have collected just seven points in seven league games in the going season, and have secured just one win.

These results leave Manchester United in the middle of their worst start to a season since 1986. Head coach Michael Carrick admitted that the situation doesn’t look great, but remains confident that his team can turn things around and go on a good run.
“We are not accepting that everything’s great, but sometimes you do struggle and you have to find a way through it. I understand the situation doesn’t look great but I have no doubts we can go on a good run. We have to find a way through it,” Carrick said after the match
“There has been a cycle where it can go in different directions, but we are more than capable of winning matches I am encouraged by a lot of things and I think we can still have a really good season,” he added.
‘It felt like a fresh start today’
Bryan Mbeumo helped Manchester United take a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute of the match. Leeds then equalised in the 51st minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted from close range after the visitors failed to clear a corner.
But after a difficult week, marked by defender Lisandro Martínez criticising the club hierarchy for lack of signings in the summer window following a Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid, Carrick feels said that the performance against Leeds United heralded a “fresh start”.
“It felt like a fresh start today, accepting it and doing something about it. There was definitely that commitment, it had to be there today. I didn’t doubt that, I could feel it, the last couple of days has been as good around the group as we have had for quite some time,” Carrick said.
“There was definitely an edge to the game, an intensity. I spoke to the boys about the history of what the game is, the territory, what it takes to win here. It definitely tests you and it wasn’t a perfect performance, but there was a lot in there to show. That didn’t surprise me,” he added.
Manchester United will next take on Como in the Champions League on October 21, before facing Bournemouth in the Premier League on October 25.
