Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar scripts history, becomes 2nd batter to smash 400 in Ranji Trophy

New Delhi: Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar scripted history on Monday, becoming only the second player to smash 400 runs in Indian domestic cricket. The left-handed batter completed the milestone in the Plate Division clash against Nagaland in Sovima.

He joined an elite list of batters to have crossed the 400-run mark in a single innings. Before him, only Maharashtra’s BB Nimbalkar had smacked an unbeaten 443 runs against Kathiawar in Pune in 1948. The historic innings came after Sutar made an impressive start to his Ranji Trophy career, scoring 99 runs against Manipur.

Before joining Mizoram, he played for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Sutar smashed 46 boundaries and seven maximums during his sensational knock. He was batting on 231 when the last batter, Lalrempuia, arrived at the crease, but Sutar continued to score runs before Mizoram declared at 581/9. The left-handed batter remained unbeaten on 400 off 517 deliveries.
