Rahul brings INDIA Bloc, students and civil society together

New Delhi: The INDIA bloc is intensifying its campaign against alleged electoral irregularities, with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi hosting opposition leaders, student organisations and civil society representatives at his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting, held over at 5, Sunehri Bagh Road, followed a major opposition march in the capital and the filing of a joint petition in the Supreme Court over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged electoral malpractice.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge described the opposition’s recent initiatives as a major success, praising Rahul Gandhi and other leaders for raising public concerns with seriousness and determination. He also highlighted the participation of young people and citizens, saying their involvement had given the campaign broader public support.

“You have witnessed the tremendous success of the INDIA alliance’s initiatives over the past four days. Rahul and other leaders raised public issues with great seriousness and dedication. Rarely have so many people come together in this manner. This is the first time in Delhi that young people and citizens have come together entirely on their own initiative. You have seen it, so I do not want to elaborate further. Now everyone is ready to expose Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plan to steal votes,” Kharge said.

The meeting brought together leaders from several opposition parties, reflecting the INDIA bloc’s effort to build a common front against the alleged irregularities. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi attended the meeting alongside Kharge and senior party leaders K.C. Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Shashi Tharoor and Pawan Khera.
