Mukesh Chhabra reveals why casting for Ramayana was a challenging process: ‘Every role…’ | Exclusive

New Delhi: Casting director Mukesh Chhabra has opened up about the extensive casting process for the much-awaited film Ramayana, revealing that finding the right actors for each character was a challenging and time-consuming task.

Speaking exclusively with News9 Digital about the film’s casting, Chhabra revealed that it was difficult to single out one character as the toughest to cast, as every role required considerable effort and careful consideration.

“Honestly, every single character was difficult to cast. Sita was extremely challenging, and so was Lakshman. The entire casting process for Ramayana was very demanding because it went on for such a long time,” Chhabra said.

He further explained that even the supporting characters required extensive casting discussions and preparation.

“We put an incredible amount of effort into casting every single role. Whether it was Bharat, Shatrughna, Kaikeyi, Kaushalya or Arun Govil’s character, each one took a lot of time and careful consideration,” he shared.

Chhabra also spoke about the casting of the actor playing the younger Ravana, revealing that the decision was made collectively and that the actor’s appearance played an important role in his selection.

“He is playing the younger Ravana, and he has done a fantastic job. It was a collective decision to cast him. His face was absolutely right for the character, and this is also his debut film,” he said.

Emphasising the scale of the casting exercise, Chhabra noted that the team spent a considerable amount of time finding actors who would be suitable for their respective characters.

“There wasn’t just one role that was the toughest to cast. Every character came with its own challenges, and we spent a great deal of time finding the right actor for each part,” he added.

The casting director’s remarks offer a glimpse into the extensive work that has gone into assembling the ensemble cast of Ramayana, one of the most anticipated Indian film projects.
