Jailer 2 Box Office collection Day 1: Rajinikanth film crosses Rs 100 crore mark, but fails to beat Coolie

New Delhi: Rajinikanth’s arrived in theatres on October 15 with huge expectations and registered a massive opening at the worldwide box office.

The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer crossed Rs 125 crore globally on Day 1. However, it could not beat the India opening of the superstar’s previous release, Coolie.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Jailer 2 earned an estimated Rs 59.70 crore net in India on its opening day from 16,599 shows. Its India gross collection stood at Rs 70.25 crore.

The film also performed strongly overseas, collecting around Rs 55 crore gross. With this, its worldwide opening-day collection reached approximately Rs 125.25 crore.

Despite the huge start, Jailer 2 fell short of Coolie, which had collected around Rs 65 crore net in India on its first day in 2025, making it Rajinikanth’s biggest opener in the country.

The Tamil version contributed the most to Jailer 2’s domestic business, earning Rs 43.35 crore from 9,326 shows. The Telugu version followed with Rs 12.50 crore from 2,792 shows.

The Hindi version collected Rs 3.50 crore from 4,371 shows. Its performance was affected after the film reportedly did not get screenings at several PVR INOX cinemas in North India amid a disagreement over the OTT release window. The Kannada version added Rs 35 lakh from 110 shows.

Jailer 2 has also secured a place among Tamil cinema’s biggest opening-day performers. With an opening-day India net collection of Rs 56.38 crore, the Rajinikanth-starrer now ranks as the fourth-highest Kollywood opener.

Only three Tamil films have recorded bigger first-day numbers so far: Vijay’s Leo and Rajinikanth’s Coolie, both at Rs 65 crore, followed by 2.0 at Rs 60 crore.

The strong opening puts Jailer 2 ahead of several major Tamil releases, including Beast (Rs 49 crore), GOAT (Rs 44 crore), Jana Nayagan (Rs 43 crore) and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram (Rs 32 crore).
