‘Indian sport at its finest’: Shreyas Iyer hails India’s stellar show at Commonwealth Games 2026
New Delhi: India’s T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer on Sunday hailed the Indian contingent for their terrific show at the recently concluded in Glasgow. India enjoyed a great campaign at the showpiece event, finishing fourth with a total of 39 medals, including 13 gold.
Despite the absence of several traditional medal-winning sports from the 2026 edition, India exceeded expectations to finish with a total of 39 medals. Iyer reserved special praise for India’s boxing contingent, which registered its best-ever performance in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
Indian dominated the proceedings at the Commonwealth Games 2026 to win a staggering ten medals across categories. The Indian pugilists returned home with seven gold and three silver medals, bettering their previous best of seven medals from the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

Who won medals for India in boxing?
Indian male and female boxers produced an excellent combined effort to ensure the country recorded its best-ever medal haul in the sport at the Commonwealth Games 2026. While women boxers claimed five gold medals, two Indian male boxers also finished on top of the podium to play their part in India’s best-ever boxing campaign in CWG history.
World champion Jaismine Lamboria bagged gold in the women’s 57kg category, while Asian champion Priya Ghanghas clinched the yellow metal in the women’s 60kg category. Sakshi Chaudhary won gold in the women’s 51kg category, while Preeti Pawar won her final bout in the women’s 57kg category.
Arundhati Choudhary won gold in the women’s 70kg category, while Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain clinched the silver medal in the women’s 75kg category. In men’s boxing, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal won gold medals in their respective categories.
