Govt sets timelines for key highway projects
New Delhi: The Delhi Government has directed all major civic and infrastructure agencies to adhere to strict timelines for completing key highway and road projects, with a focus on tackling waterlogging, reducing traffic congestion and removing inter-departmental bottlenecks.
The directions were issued during the fifth meeting of the UT Level Coordination Committee on NHAI and GNCTD Issues, chaired by PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh. Senior officials from PWD, NHAI, Delhi Police, MCD, Delhi Jal Board, DDA, DMRC, Revenue Department, BSES and other agencies attended the meeting. Parvesh Sahib Singh said responsibilities have been assigned to every department with fixed deadlines, stressing that the government’s priority is to ensure on-ground execution instead of procedural delays. Agencies were asked to fast-track pending approvals, utility shifting and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to prevent delays in infrastructure projects.
The committee reviewed chronic waterlogging at NH-24, particularly the Patparganj and Pandav Nagar underpasses, along with vulnerable locations such as Mahipalpur T-Point, Nausena Bhawan, Thal Sena Bhawan and the R&R Hospital underpass. While PWD has completed desilting work along NH-24, NHAI has been directed to raise the road level and implement permanent engineering solutions instead of temporary monsoon measures.
Progress of the Andheria Mor-NH-48 Corridor, Rangpuri Bypass Tunnel, Rohtak Road Corridor, service roads and drainage infrastructure was also reviewed. The Revenue Department was asked to complete pending land demarcation and mutation, while DDA and DJB were directed to expedite land and utility-related clearances.
The committee also reviewed congestion at Delhi’s border entry points, road safety, illegal parking and encroachments on the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Agencies were instructed to strengthen enforcement, improve emergency response and highway patrolling, and submit Action Taken Reports before the next review meeting to ensure accountability and timely completion of projects.
