Former England star likely to join CSK as batting coach ahead of IPL 2027
New Delhi: Former England spinner Gareth Batty is reportedly set to join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as their batting coach ahead of the . CSK are in the process of revamping their support staff after appointing former India pacer Zaheer Khan as the head coach earlier this year.

As per a report in the Times of India, CSK are likely to appoint Batty as their new batting coach. Kasi Viswanathan, the franchise’s CEO, also confirmed the development and said the discussions and the negotiations are currently underway regarding Batty’s appointment.
“We are in discussions with him. The negotiations are underway, and an announcement is likely in a couple of days,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quoted as saying by TimesofIndia.com.
Batty shares a great rapport with current CSK head coach Zaheer Khan, having played alongside the former India pacer for Worcestershire in the English county. Batty is currently working as the head coach of Surrey in the County Championship.
He guided Surrey to a hat-trick of titles in the County Championship before the club finished as the runners-up last season. A number of Surrey players, including the likes of Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson and Will Jacks, also went on to represent England.
CSK revamping their structure
CSK are revamping their structure after failing to reach the IPL playoffs for three consecutive seasons since their last title triumph under MS Dhoni in 2023. Dhoni stepped down as captain after IPL 2023 to hand over the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has failed to live up to expectations.
CSK also failed to get the right players at the IPL 2024 mega auction, which has played a key role in their downfall. The franchise sacked Stephen Fleming as the head coach earlier this year, marking an end to their long-term association.
CSK replaced Fleming with Zaheer and have also let go of other members of Fleming’s support staff. The franchise will be looking to rebuild the squad in the upcoming IPL 2027 auction as they aim to break their playoffs jinx next season.
