Foreign tourist visits up by 336% past 6 yrs in Raj

Jaipur: Foreign tourist visits to Rajasthan have registered a sharp increase of 336 per cent over the past six years, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Citing data compiled by the Ministry of Tourism based on inputs from the Rajasthan government, Shekhawat said that foreign tourist visits (FTVs) risen significantly from 4.46 lakh in 2020 to 19.45 lakh in 2025, despite a dip during the COVID-19 affected period.

The data showed that FTVs stood at 0.35 lakh in 2021, before rising to 3.97 lakh in 2022, 17 lakh in 2023 and 20.72 lakh in 2024, reflecting a strong recovery and growth trend. Domestic tourist visits (DTVs) also witnessed a substantial increase during the same period, rising from 151.17 lakh in 2020 to 2,525.03 lakh in 2025, the data showed.

The minister said that while specific revenue figures from tourism at individual locations are not maintained, higher tourist footfall generally leads to increased hotel bookings and overall tourism revenue. He added that identification, development and promotion of tourism destinations is a continuous process primarily undertaken by state governments and Union Territory administrations. According to the Rajasthan government, several steps are being taken to boost tourism in the state through infrastructure development and targeted marketing initiatives.
