‘Apologise to Daler paaji first’: Mika Singh offers free Uttarakhand concert amid controversy

New Delhi: Daler Mehndi’s brother Mika Singh has asked Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal to apologise to his elder brother, , after the singer was “humiliated publicly” on stage during a cultural event in New Tehri. Mika said the allegations against Daler were wrong and questioned why a veteran singer had to face such treatment in front of an audience.

The controversy began on Sunday (October 18) night when Daler was performing at the Tourism and Development Fair in Uttarakhand. Uniyal interrupted the performance and questioned the singer’s conduct, suggesting that he was intoxicated. A video of the exchange later circulated on social media, prompting several members of the entertainment industry to come out in the singer’s support.

Mika Singh demands apology

On Wednesday (October 21), Mika took to Instagram to thank singers, fans and members of the film industry who had stood by his brother. He maintained that Daler does not drink alcohol and said the allegations against him were unfair.

“My point is simple: Daler Mehndi ji does not drink alcohol, and making such allegations against him is completely wrong,” Mika wrote.

He also questioned the minister’s decision to reprimand Daler in public, arguing that even scolding a child in school could become a serious issue. He then demanded an apology from Uniyal.

“I believe an apology is due. The person responsible should acknowledge that the allegations about Daler Mehndi ji drinking alcohol were wrong and apologise for the way he was treated,” Mika wrote, tagging the minister in his post.

Reacting to the on-stage exchange between Daler and Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, Bhupi Panwal questioned why the organisers were not informed beforehand if the singer was unwell. Goel said he was a fan of Daler Mehndi but raised concerns about what happened during the Maa Kunjapuri religious event held during Navratri.

Reacting to it, Mika wrote, “Alright, I will come to Uttarakhand and perform for you absolutely free. But before that, ask your minister to apologise to Daler Mehndi ji. Daler paaji performed for the entire one hour and 30 minutes, and many people present there were dancing with him. Despite this, he was accused of performing after consuming alcohol.”

“Daler paaji performed for the entire one hour and 30 minutes, and many people present there were dancing with him. Despite this, he was accused of performing after consuming alcohol,” Mika said.

Mika further said he was willing to share a video of the incident and turned the question towards the minister’s conduct.

“Sir, I will send you the video. You can see for yourself what happened there. If your minister appears to have consumed alcohol in the video, then what action will you take against him? Sir, my question to you is simple — shouldn’t the rules and accountability be the same for everyone?,” he added.

What Subodh Uniyal said about Daler Mehndi’s performance

Uniyal later explained his side of the incident while speaking to ANI. He claimed that Daler appeared disoriented on stage and was not singing live.

“He is a big artist. If a big artist doesn’t do justice to their art… He seemed disoriented on stage and didn’t seem to be able to even keep standing. Besides this, he was only lip-syncing to his songs,” the minister said. Uniyal added that Daler had been paid Rs 35 lakh to perform at the event and said he had interrupted the performance because he felt the singer was not doing justice to his art.

Anupam Kher, Badshah And Others Back Daler Mehndi

Mika is not the only celebrity to have spoken up for Daler. He also challenged anyone claiming that his brother drinks alcohol, saying he would quit singing if the allegation could be proved.

Actor Anupam Kher criticised the minister’s behaviour, saying Daler had not been keeping well for the past two to three years but had still honoured his professional commitments.
