Ambani adds $6.3 bn in a day, tops global wealth gainers

New Delhi: Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has emerged as the world’s biggest billionaire wealth gainer, adding USD 6.3 billion to his fortune in a single day as shares of his flagship company surged following stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings.

According to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires list, Ambani’s wealth rose 7.85 per cent to USD 88.8 billion in the latest update on November 2, making him the biggest gainer globally.

The gain was significantly ahead of the second-biggest wealth accretion on the list, with Spanish retail billionaire Amancio Ortega adding USD 1.7 billion, followed by China’s Zhong Shanshan with USD 1.5 billion.

Ambani moved to the 23rd position on the global billionaire list, retaining his position as India’s richest person. Gautam Adani was ranked 26th with a fortune of USD 79.12 billion. The surge in Ambani’s wealth coincided with an 11.6 per cent jump in Reliance Industries shares on Monday, their strongest trading session in more than six years. The stock closed at its day’s high and emerged as the biggest gainer on the Nifty 50.
