Patna youth’s death triggers violence, vehicles torched and journalists attacked

New Delhi: The death of a 26-year-old man in a road accident triggered widespread violence in Patna on Friday with an angry crowd setting vehicles on fire, attacking journalists and clashing with police. The incident took place in the Agamkuan police station area of Patna City after the victim was allegedly run over by a speeding bus.

According to police, the victim is identified as Manish Kumar who died on the spot after being hit while crossing the road. Soon after the accident, local residents and the victim’s family gathered at the scene. The bus driver reportedly fled while passengers got off the vehicle before the crowd turned violent.

Eyewitnesses said the protesters set the bus involved in the accident on fire. The unrest quickly escalated with several other vehicles including three jeeps and multiple motorcycles also being torched.
