‘Korean Kanakaraju’ controversy: Varun Tej clarifies Sr NTR scene was never meant to disrespect

Actor Varun Tej has opened up about the controversy surrounding the film Korean Kanakaraju. The star clarified that the scene involving comedian Satya was never meant to disrespect legendary actor Sr. NTR.

The discussion around the alleged disrespect happened after a fan group of Nandamuri fans complained on social media after a clip went viral. However, Varun Tej clarified that the controversial scene was shot in November last year and has nothing to do with the recent row.

“There is a big difference between imitation and trolling. We do a lot of imitations in our films for the sake of the audience. I did it in F3 when I did the parody of Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab, and that had nothing to do with disrespect. Similarly, Satya did some legends like Krishna Da and Chiranjeevi Saab as part of promotion for the film. It is all done in good spirit,” he added.

Furthermore, director Merlapaka Gandhi mentioned it was a meme which was going around, and it was part of the promotion. “At the time, when we were shooting this particular scene, the meme was doing the rounds and people wanted to see it come to life on the big screen. Now it has become one of the highlights of the film. There is no disrespect to legends in it.”

Meanwhile, it may be noted that the makers have not faced any issues from the Nandamuri fans. On the contrary, the film has seen a good turnout at the box office, with audiences enjoying the parody and the comic relief delivered by Satya.
