PM Modi asks NDA MPs to stay calm in House, avoid ‘web of Lutyens’ Delhi’

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met around 45 National Democratic Alliance MPs over breakfast at his residence on Friday amid a stormy Monsoon Session of Parliament.

The meeting began around 9 am and included newly elected and first-time Lok Sabha MPs. Parliamentarians who recently joined the NDA from parties such as the Trinamool Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction also attended, BJP sources told news agency ANI.

Advice on conduct

The PM urged the MPs to remain calm during heated debates and not allow tensions inside Parliament to affect their conduct outside the House.

“Do not carry the anxiety from inside the House to outside. Because sometimes there is such an atmosphere in the House that it causes anxiety, you should not carry it with you. There is also no need to speak angrily or shout in anger. You all know the party line, and you should calmly present your views on every issue,” said PM Modi as per the sources who informed news agency ANI.

The prime minister also asked the MPs to avoid the “web of Lutyens’ Delhi” and maintain dignity during television appearances.

“No one should say anything trashy on TV. Maintain full dignity at all times. Engage actively in social media through Facebook, Instagram and X; interact with youth, inform government welfare work, encourage youth for sports activities.”

NDA as family

Jagdish Basunia, a leader of the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, described the breakfast meeting as a “great interaction”. The NCPI was formed after its members broke away from the TMC. “It was a great interaction with PM Modi over breakfast today, a very cordial meeting. PM told us we are all part of the NDA family. Let’s work together for public welfare, the way NDA works,” Basunia told ANI.

Focus on northeast

NCPI MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said the MPs discussed the development of the northeast and ways to support Modi’s vision for the region. “We had a conversation regarding the development of the North-East region of the nation. We will work to fulfil PM Modi’s vision,” Bandyopadhyay said.

NCPI MP Shatabdi Roy also spoke about cooperation among the NDA partners. “We had a discussion on how to work together for the best interests of the nation,” she remarked. The breakfast interaction came two days after Modi met 37 newly elected BJP Rajya Sabha MPs at his residence on August 5.
