Bindyarani Devi wins bronze as Nigeria’s Lawal sets new records in women’s 58kg weightlifting final

New Delhi: India’s Bindyarani Devi added another medal to the country’s Commonwealth Games campaign after winning bronze in the women’s 58kg weightlifting competition in Glasgow on Monday. The experienced lifter delivered a determined performance in a tough field to finish on the podium.

Bindyarani completed the event with a total lift of 199kg, combining an 87kg snatch and a 112kg clean and jerk. The Indian started the snatch round with 83kg before successfully improving to 85kg and then 87kg in her final attempt.

The 26-year-old entered the competition with the experience of a Commonwealth Games silver medal behind her, having finished second in the women’s 55kg category at Birmingham 2022. Competing in a new weight division, Bindyarani showed her ability to adapt and secured another Commonwealth Games medal.
