Michael Carrick to be given time to turn Manchester United’s season around

New Delhi: Manchester United will be given more time by the club’s hierarchy after a meeting on Monday. Carrick’s position appeared under serious threat after a 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth on Sunday. The defeat left United in the 16th position and without a victory in their last eight matches in all competitions.

had also suffered a 0-4 defeat to Italian side Como and are placed 20th on the Champions League table with just three points. They have secured only seven points in the Premier League this season, which is their lowest tally after eight matches in 40 years.

According to The Athletic report, after conversations with Man United’s senior leadership figures, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, the club has decided to give Carrick and the players more time.

Carrick to remain manager of Manchester United vs Chelsea

Carrick was at the club’s training ground, Carrington, on Monday to watch the Under-21 side play Hull City. He then took the senior’s team training and will be in charge in Manchester United’s clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The decision came as a surprise for fans after the club endured a tough few weeks under Carrick. He dropped captain Bruno Fernandes from the starting XI for the Bournemouth clash and did not bring him off the bench at Old Trafford.

Fernandes criticised Carrick’s tactics following the club’s defeat against Como, a week after defender Lisandro Martinez slammed the technical director Jason Wilcox for not investing in the squad in an angry post-match interview.

That form didn’t continue in the ongoing season, with United winning just one Premier League match out of the eight and also being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Brighton & Hove Albion. They started their Champions League campaign with a four-goal victory against Sabah, but suffered a two-goal defeat at Atletico Madrid and a 4-0 loss at Como.
