JLR starts local assembly of Defender 110 in India with prices starting at Rs 99 lakh

Hyderabad: Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India has commenced local assembly of its popular off-roader, the Defender 110, at its manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra. The shift from completely built-up (CBU) imports to local completely knocked down (CKD) assembly makes India the first market outside Europe to produce the Defender 110.

The move has enabled JLR to significantly reduce import duties, resulting in price cuts of up to Rs 34 lakh across the Defender 110 lineup.

Under the revised pricing, the entry-level 2.0-litre turbo-petrol variant is now priced at Rs 99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), down by Rs 14 lakh from its earlier Rs 1.13 crore tag. The 3.0-litre petrol and 3.0-litre diesel variants have seen a uniform price reduction of Rs 34 lakh, now retailing at Rs 1.18 crore each compared to their previous CBU price of Rs 1.52 crore.

The locally assembled SUV is offered in a single X-Dynamic HSE trim across three engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol (296 BHP / 300 PS), a 3.0-litre petrol (394 BHP / 400 PS), and a 3.0-litre diesel (346 BHP / 350 PS).

Alongside the price drop, JLR has incorporated previously optional features as standard equipment. The 2.0-litre variant gains 17 standard features—including adaptive air suspension, Terrain Response 2, three-zone climate control, cabin air purification, and 14-way power-adjustable front seats with heating and cooling. The 3.0-litre variants receive up to 29 standard additions, such as an electronic active differential with torque vectoring, configurable Terrain Response, 20-inch diamond-turned alloys, heated third-row seating, and a Meridian audio system.

Local assembly in India remains restricted to the Defender 110 body style. Other models in the lineup—including the Defender 90, Defender 130, and the high-performance Defender Octa—will continue to be imported as CBUs from JLR’s global manufacturing facility in Nitra, Slovakia.

Bookings for the locally assembled Defender 110 are currently open, with customer deliveries scheduled to commence on November 15.
