Energy efficiency drives AP’s climate agenda

Vijayawada: A multi-pronged approach to implement energy efficiency initiatives with high strike rate is transforming Andhra Pradesh into a role model.

The State has already achieved nearly 37 per cent renewable energy capacity, out of its total installed power generation capacity of 21,457 MW.

Taking this further, State has set an ambitious target of generating 160 GW of renewable energy through the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP).

The State has set a target of increasing its green cover from the present level of around 30 per cent to 37 per cent by 2030 and 50 per cent by 2047, reinforcing its commitment towards ecological conservation and sustainable development.

“The Centre-State partnership between Andhra Pradesh and Government of India is turning into a national success story in energy efficiency and climate action, significantly contributing towards India’s climate commitments,” said Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad.

He said a bold and visionary initiative aimed at safeguarding the interests of present and future generations, the Andhra Pradesh Government has reaffirmed its commitment to making the State India’s leader in combating climate change through sustainable development, energy conservation and environmental stewardship.

Declaring full support to the Union Government’s mission of effective fuel management and the National Energy Conservation Movement, he said, Andhra Pradesh Government has adopted a comprehensive multi-pronged strategy that integrates climate action with economic growth and technological advancement.

Unveiling a special report prepared by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Ministry of Power, on the economic and environmental impact of energy efficiency programmes in coordination with APSECM, the Chief Secretary said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has set an ambitious goal of making Andhra Pradesh the No.1 State in India in addressing climate change and sustainable economic development.
