Hyderabad: Sanju Samson delivered another explosive performance, but India failed to chase down a daunting target as West Indies registered a 24-run victory in the fourth T20 International to level the five-match series 2-2 on Wednesday.

Chasing 248 for victory, India were bowled out for 223 in 19.3 overs, with Keemo Paul claiming five wickets for 41 runs to derail the hosts’ pursuit.

Samson set the tone with a blistering 56 off just 23 balls at the top of the order. However, his dismissal left India needing another substantial contribution to stay in the hunt. Tilak Varma chipped in with 43, but the Indian batting line-up could not keep pace with the required run rate.

Earlier, West Indies captain Shai Hope led the visitors’ charge with an unbeaten 102 off just 50 deliveries. His knock featured nine sixes and four fours, powering West Indies to a formidable 247 for three in their 20 overs.

Sherfane Rutherford provided the late flourish with an unbeaten 49 off 26 balls, including four fours and three sixes. Shimron Hetmyer also made a valuable contribution of 33.

Prince Yadav was the only Indian bowler to take a wicket, finishing with figures of 1/36.

India’s Arshdeep Singh suffered a blow to his right shoulder during the final over of the West Indies innings, bowled by Shamar Joseph, and subsequently retired hurt.

With the series now level at 2-2, the fifth and final T20I will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Brief scores: West Indies 247/3 in 20 overs (Shai Hope 102 not out, Sherfane Rutherford 49 not out, Shimron Hetmyer 33; Prince Yadav 1/36) beat India 223 all out in 19.3 overs (Sanju Samson 56, Tilak Varma 43; Keemo Paul 5/41) by 24 runs.
