Delegation seeks halt on water release to Tamil Nadu

Bengaluru: A Karnataka bandh was called to oppose the Cauvery water dispute and the orders issued by the Cauvery Water Management Authority and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee. As part of the bandh, police in Bengaluru took prominent Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj into custody.

Officers stopped and arrested him as a precautionary step the moment he left his house to proceed towards Majestic. Slogans against the police were raised at the location and protesters condemned the action of the police department.

Kannada organisations across the state are holding protests against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Demonstrations occurred at bus stands in Bengaluru and several other parts of the state, and the detention of Vatal Nagaraj has added intensity to the protest.
