Kolkata women can now ride Yatri Sathi shuttles for just Rs 39

New Delhi: Getting home late after work or stepping out early in the morning may soon become easier and more affordable for women in Kolkata. Yatri Sathi is planning to launch a dedicated shuttle service for women, with fares starting at just Rs 39.

The shuttle service is expected to operate across several important routes covering areas from north to south and east to west Kolkata, as well as adjoining areas. The initiative aims to provide women with a cheaper alternative to app-based cabs, which can often cost Rs 100–150 or more for a single trip.

The Yatri Sathi app-based cab service was launched under the previous state government and was positioned as a local alternative to ride-hailing platforms such as Ola and Uber. The service is now planning to expand its offerings with the introduction of affordable women-only shuttle services.

The initiative is primarily aimed at making daily commuting **more affordable and convenient for women**, particularly working professionals and students. By offering shuttle services at a starting fare of Rs 39, the government-backed initiative hopes to reduce the daily transportation burden on women and encourage greater reliance on public transport.

Initially, the shuttle service is likely to be introduced on selected routes. Depending on passenger demand and the performance of the service, more routes could be added at a later stage.

The biggest attraction of the proposed service is its low fare. Instead of spending Rs 100–150 or more on a cab, women will be able to access shuttle services starting at just Rs 39.

If implemented successfully, the initiative could provide a significant boost to affordable public transportation for women in Kolkata while making daily commuting more organised and convenient.
