Woman gang-raped in Kataka district

Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly raped by a group of men in Kataka district when she was out with her friend on a drive, police said on Wednesday. The incident happened in the Nischintakoili police station area on Tuesday night. The woman was out with her male friend, and heading towards Kendrapada from Bhubaneswar, police said. “When they stopped near Sukarpada village on the Kataka-Chandbali Road, a group of four to six men intercepted them. The suspects thrashed the friend, and gang-raped the woman,” SP (Kataka – Rural) Vinit Agrawal said. “The group fled the spot, leaving the two at the spot,” he said. A case has been registered on the basis of the complaint lodged by the survivor, Agrawal said, adding that a DSP-rank officer has been appointed as investigating officer.
