WATCH: India’s indigenous bullet train B28 undergoes squeeze test at BEML Bengaluru
New Delhi: India’s bullet train project has reached another stage, with the country’s first indigenously designed high-speed train undergoing structural testing at BEML’s manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. A video shared by Union Minister Piyush Goyal has offered a glimpse of the train and the checks being carried out before it moves closer to operation.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently visited the facility and inspected the manufacturing process. During the visit, he explained how different parts of the train including its roof, side walls, end walls and driver’s cab, are being tested to ensure they meet the required standards.
Vaishnaw said the train’s design follows global benchmarks and highlighted a compression test being carried out to check the strength of its body. The test is aimed at assessing whether the structure can withstand the pressure and stress experienced during high-speed travel.
“When the train runs at those very high speeds, then around the train, a vacuum gets created,” Vaishnaw said while explaining the testing process.
Why is bullet train undergoing structural tests?
At high speeds, trains face changes in air pressure and strong aerodynamic forces. These can put stress on the train’s body, making structural strength an important part of safety checks.
The compression test demonstrated during Vaishnaw’s visit will help engineers assess how the train’s structure responds to such pressure. These tests are necessary to ensure that the train can handle the conditions expected during high-speed operations while maintaining safety and reliability.
Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, shared the video of the inspection on X, giving the public a closer look at the work underway at the Bengaluru facility.

BEML’s role in India’s high-speed rail plans
BEML, a Bengaluru-based public sector manufacturer, is contributing to the development of India’s high-speed rail technology. The indigenously designed train is part of the country’s wider push to strengthen domestic manufacturing and build advanced railway systems.
However, the train will have to clear the required engineering checks and validations before it can enter commercial service. The ongoing work at BEML offers a glimpse of the manufacturing and testing involved as India moves ahead with its bullet train plans.
