Vote Chori’ Rally: Congress Suspends Youth Wing Functionaries
The Congress party is upset over several party workers skipping the Opposition’s ‘Vote Chori’ rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) is learnt to have suspended dozens of its workers, while office-bearers across three states have been issued notices for violating the party’s directive. Some have also been removed from their posts on Wednesday. The IYC termed their absence a serious act of organisational indiscipline.
Among those suspended are office-bearers holding the posts of vice-president, general secretary and secretary in their respective state units of the Youth Congress.
The maximum number of suspensions has taken place in Madhya Pradesh, where the party’s youth wing has taken action against 60 office-bearers. The Haryana and Himachal Pradesh units of the party have suspended 10 and 13 members, respectively. Their suspensions have come into immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice, the outfit said.
It may be recalled that Opposition parties belonging to the INDIA bloc held a mega rally to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Ahead of the rally, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had called on the party’s top brass and leaders of its allied organisations to ensure maximum participation to put pressure on the government. However, several Youth Congress members from these three states gave the rally a miss.
