Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika Mandanna’s Ranabaali cleared by CBFC

Hyderabad: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared director Rahul Sankrityan’s eagerly awaited period film Ranabaali, featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles, for release with a U/A certificate.

Mythri Movie Makers, which has produced the film, shared the update on its social media accounts. It wrote, “A story that survived generations. A legend that deserves to be witnessed. This October 16, on the biggest screens, be part of correcting our history in an epic experience. #Ranabaali — U/A Certified. Book your tickets. Witness the legend. GRAND RELEASE WORLDWIDE ON 16.10.26. #NeverForget #RanabaaliOnOct16th.”

The film has generated considerable expectations among fans and film buffs and is one of the most eagerly awaited releases of the year.

Ranabaali is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on October 16, 2026. It was originally scheduled for release on September 11 this year.

Vijay Deverakonda plays Ranabaali, while Rashmika Mandanna portrays his wife, Jayamma. Arnold Vosloo, best known for his role in The Mummy, plays the antagonist, Sir Theodore Hector.

Produced on a grand scale by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar, the film is presented by T-Series. Set against the backdrop of British rule in the 19th century, it is a period action drama based on historical events said to have taken place between 1854 and 1878. The film is being mounted as a major pan-India project.

According to sources, Ranabaali is inspired by real incidents from the 1850s that have not received much attention in mainstream history books. They said the film would draw on events from the period between 1850 and 1900 and seek to portray incidents that the British allegedly misrepresented in historical accounts.

Sources have also said that Ranabaali is neither a biopic nor a textbook retelling of history, but a cinematic reconstruction of an era drawing on multiple real-life accounts, oral histories and suppressed records.

Following Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade, Ranabaali will mark the third film in which Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda will appear together as a pair.
