Uddhav Thackeray compares Gen Z to Shivaji Maharaj, says Mughals called him ‘chuha’ as well
New Delhi: Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday compared Generation Z with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He said that just as many young people today are being mocked as cockroaches Shivaji Maharaj was also once called a chuha or rat by the Mughals despite achieving great success at a young age.
Speaking at the launch of a book in Mumbai Thackeray said the people who were recently insulted as cockroaches belong to Generation Z. He added that history has shown many times that young people have changed society even after facing criticism and ridicule.
Uddhav Thackeray draws Shivaji Maharaj parallel to defend gen z
Thackeray said the people who were called cockroaches belong to what is now known as Generation Z which generally includes those between the ages of 13 or 14 and 27 or 28. He said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was also around that age when he captured Torna Fort at just 17 years old. He added that even Shivaji Maharaj was called a chuha or rat by the Mughals despite his achievements.
He also referred to Sant Dnyaneshwar saying he was very young when he wrote the Dnyaneshwari. Thackeray said both Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar faced strong opposition during their time despite their remarkable contributions.
Shiv Sena UBT chief says young voices must be heard
Thackeray compared the early achievements of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with the dreams and ambitions of today’s young people. He said the opinions of the youth should not be ignored just because of their age. Referring to Shivaji Maharaj he said he challenged the powerful Mughal Empire while he was still a teenager and added that the present generation should be supported instead of being mocked.
The Shiv Sena UBT chief also praised young people for leading protests across the country over the NEET paper leak and demanding the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He said that when many people felt democracy had lost its strength it was the youth who helped bring it back through their protests. Thackeray made these remarks at a time when political leaders from different parties have increasingly started using Gen Z slang and internet terms during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Bansuri Swaraj and Priyanka Gandhi bring gen z references to parliament
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj recently used Gen Z language while speaking in support of a government Bill. During the debate she used the phrase clock it which is a popular internet expression that means to notice or recognise something. She said that using the language of Gen Z she would say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi clocked it by bringing a legislative solution to the issue.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also referred to Gen Z while criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s way of connecting with young people. She said that if the government wanted to connect with Gen Z making videos with different camera angles would not be enough. According to her the Prime Minister needs to change the angle of his heart rather than the angle of the cameras.
