Tusshar Kapoor gets Rs 5 crore extortion threat; caller claims to be Bishnoi gang member
New Delhi: Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has received an extortion threat from a caller who claimed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and demanded Rs 5 crore. The actor alerted Mumbai Police, following which the case was taken up by the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Crime Branch.

However, an initial technical examination has raised questions over whether the caller actually has any connection with the gang. Police sources said investigators compared the voice in the threatening audio with samples of the person the caller allegedly claimed to be, but the voices did not match.

According to reports, the caller identified himself as Harry Boxer and claimed to be a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang before demanding Rs 5 crore from Tusshar Kapoor.
After the actor approached Mumbai Police, the Anti-Extortion Cell and Crime Branch began investigating the threat. The Crime Branch’s technical team subsequently examined the audio recording and compared the caller’s voice with official samples available in its database.
Senior police officials said the preliminary comparison did not establish a match. Investigators therefore suspect that someone may have used the name of the Bishnoi gang to frighten the actor and make the threat appear more serious. Police are now working to identify and trace the person behind the threatening audio. Further details about the caller’s identity and motive are awaited.
Tiger Shroff firing case: Threat comes days after
The threat to Tusshar Kapoor comes amid heightened security concerns for Bollywood celebrities after the firing incident involving Tiger Shroff on October 18. Two shooters allegedly opened fire at Shroff’s car when he was leaving a football ground in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Five rounds were reportedly fired. The actor escaped largely unhurt, while his driver and a bystander, identified as a vlogger, sustained injuries.
Individuals claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack. Police have named Bishnoi aide Anil Pandit as a wanted accused in the case.
The investigation has since expanded across multiple states, with 13 people arrested from different locations in Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana.
Most recently, the Mumbai Crime Branch apprehended a 22-year-old woman from Karnal, Haryana, with assistance from the local police. Authorities have not yet disclosed her alleged role in the case. Three women are among those arrested so far.
On October 27, police also invoked provisions of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused.
