Tragedy in Ghaziabad: 40 year old psychiatrist dies by suicide following divorce

New Delhi: A 40-year-old psychiatrist named Dr. Hemika Agrawal has died by suicide in Ghaziabad. Her family said she was suffering from deep depression and stress after getting a divorce about a year and a half ago. Police said she jumped from her fifth-floor apartment on Sunday at the Officers City-2 Society in Raj Nagar Extension.

Family says divorce took heavy toll

Her father, Dr. R. Chandra who is also a well known doctor in Ghaziabad said his daughter had been struggling emotionally ever since her marriage ended 18 months ago. After the incident, neighbors and people nearby rushed her to a local hospital. However, doctors at the hospital said she had already passed away,police said.

Police investigation underway

Police officials said they are looking into every detail of the case. They are taking statements from family members and checking all the evidence gathered from the spot. As of now, police have not confirmed finding any suicide note.

Authorities added that further steps will be taken after they get the post-mortem report and finish their investigation.
