Three workers killed as factory structure collapses near Hosur
Bengaluru: Three workers were killed and four others seriously injured after a portion of an under-construction factory building collapsed near SIPCOT in Hosur, close to the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border.

The deceased have been identified as Kumareshan (39), Michael (26) and Srinivasan (26). The injured workers were shifted to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The accident occurred at Balaji Gears, where construction work was in progress. Workers were pouring concrete into a mould when the wooden supports used for centring suddenly gave way, causing the structure to collapse. Several workers were trapped beneath the debris. Rescue personnel used cranes to remove the bodies of the deceased from the rubble. District Collector Dinesh and Superintendent of Police Anita visited the spot and inspected the accident site. Preliminary investigations indicated that the structure lacked adequate supporting pillars and proper arrangements to withstand the weight of the concrete. The absence of essential safety precautions during construction is suspected to have contributed to the tragedy.
District Collector Dinesh Kumar said 17 workers were engaged in the construction activity when the main entrance structure collapsed, killing three people. He reportedly directed the Hosur Deputy Superintendent of Police to initiate stringent action against those responsible, including the engineer who designed the structure and others involved in the construction work.
