‘Think about cricket, not social media’: Ishan Kishan reveals Team India’s advice to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

New Delhi: Ishan Kishan has revealed advice to 15-year-old young opener after the Men in Blue defeated Zimbabwe by 90 runs in the 2nd T20I at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, July 25. Batting first, the visitors posted a massive 219/5 in 20 overs.

They got off to a poor start as Blessing Muzarabani removed Abhishek Sharma for 8, while Richard Ngarava dismissed Sooryavanshi for 20, leaving India reeling at 29/2 in three overs. Kishan then played a crucial knock and stitched a 66-run partnership with captain Shreyas Iyer to help the team recover.

After Iyer’s dismissal, the wicketkeeper-batter forged a 90-run partnership with Tilak Verma for the fourth wicket. He scored 81 runs off 44 balls with the help of nine boundaries and two maximums to help India set a 220-run target. In reply, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 129 runs in 17.5 overs. Abhishek Sharma picked up three wickets, while Prince Yadav and Yash Thakur took two each.

‘The mistakes we have made in our starting, Vaibhav should not do that’

Kishan praised Vaibhav after the match and said he is very smart and knows what he is doing. The wicketkeeper batter further added that the young opener knows how to bat in different situations and how to carry himself on and off the field.

“Vaibhav is actually very smart. He knows what he is doing. He knows how he has to bat and how he has to carry himself on and off the field. When you represent India, you have to know what to focus on. Me, Abhishek, Axar bhai and many others keep telling him to think about cricket, not social media or outside noise,” Kishan said after the second T20I in Zimbabwe.

“When you have such a player and you know that he is very young, you will never want him to be distracted for the wrong reasons. So our job as a team, we are like brothers and he comes from my place, so we just have to be happy, focus on the important things. The mistakes we have made in our starting, he should not do that. He should enjoy his cricket, like he is doing now,” he added.

India will take on Zimbabwe in the third and final T20I at the same venue on Sunday, July 26.
