Netflix’s political drama The Diplomat is returning for a fifth season. The streaming platform has renewed the series starring Keri Russell, just two weeks after its fourth season premiered on October 15, 2026. The renewal was reported on Thursday, October 29, ending weeks of uncertainty over the show’s future.

Created by Debora Cahn, The Diplomat follows Kate Wyler, an American diplomat who finds herself dealing with international crises, complicated political decisions and problems in her personal life. Russell plays Kate, while Rufus Sewell portrays her husband, Hal Wyler. The show first arrived on Netflix in April 2023 and has continued to build its story around tensions between world leaders and the people working behind closed doors.
