Tesla Roadster Stuns With Upside-Down Flying Demo
SpaceX place, in McGregor, Texas on October 15 a new version of the Roadster that people have been waiting for drove down, stayed in the air for a short time and landed without any problems.

The unusual showcase comes nearly nine years after Tesla first unveiled the next-generation electric sports car. The demonstration was carried out under controlled conditions and highlighted technology developed in collaboration with SpaceX, ’s rocket company.
In the stunt, the Roadster accelerated up a large curved ramp before continuing along the surface while upside down. The vehicle then became airborne for a short manoeuvre before returning safely to the ground. The spectacle was designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the redesigned electric supercar rather than present it as a vehicle ready for everyday flying.
Musk shared a video of the demonstration on his social media platform, X, with the caption: “Turns out the future does have flying cars.”
Tesla’s official account also posted footage from the event, giving viewers a closer look at the Roadster’s unusual movements.
A key part of the vehicle’s technology is its SpaceX-developed cold-gas thruster system. These thrusters use pressurised gas to generate thrust, allowing the car to perform movements that would be impossible for a conventional road vehicle. The demonstration combined the propulsion system with other specialised technologies to achieve the brief airborne manoeuvre.
Despite the future‑looking display, the demonstration does not mean Tesla has a flying car. The stunt happened inside an area and there is no sign that the Roadster has permission to fly on public roads. We still need to answer questions about safety, rules, roads, for flying cars and how useful flying cars really are.
Tesla first showed the Roadster in November 2017. The company said it would start making the car earlier. The project has had many delays. People who want to buy a car have been waiting for a while.
After the announcement, on Thursday reports say Tesla now expects production to start in 2028. That means buyers may still have a wait before the new Roadster reaches the market.
The demonstration certainly makes the Roadster one of Tesla’s talked-about projects. While the company has shown that the car can perform extraordinary manoeuvres in a controlled setting, turning that technology into a safe, legal and practical form of everyday transportation remains a much bigger challenge.
