Spider-Man: No Way Home actress Mary Rivera, who played Ned’s grandmother, dies at 82

New Delhi: Veteran actress Mary Rivera, who played Jacob Batalon’s grandmother in Spider-Man: No Way Home, passed away at the age of 82. The fans of the franchise are mourning the passing of the actress worldwide.

According to her obituary, she died on April 15 in Honolulu, but the news came to light only when TMZ reported, following confirmation from the one of the family members.

One of her family members told TMZ, “Mary suffered a stroke, and doctors warned the family that her condition was extremely serious.”

She was in coma and after doctors revealed that even if she comes out of the coma, her condition wouldn’t improve significantly. Hence, Mary’s family decided to remove her life support, according to reports. She was later cremated.

Her family member revealed that she was “very proud” to have received the opportunity to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. She shared the screen space with Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The family member was quoted as saying, “Her family encouraged her to audition for the role, which ultimately became one of her proudest accomplishments.”

Who was Mary Egida Rivera?

Mary Egida was born on June 2, 1943 in Illoilo, Phillipines, to the late Vicente and Felicia Egida, who retired as a missionary for the church.

Despite limited screen time, she became a fan favourite for playing Ned’s grandmother in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

She is survived by her husband Alejandro Rivera, children Carmela Jones, Paul Rivera, Edwin Rovera, and Angela Kelly, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
