‘See you there’: After CJP, Neha Bora backs INDIA bloc’s Nov 1 rally against Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi: Student activist and All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora has backed the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process.

In a video address shared on her social media accounts, Bora urged citizens to gather at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to defend their voting rights and democracy.

Bora lists three demands

“Our demand to seek Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, impose a complete halt on the SIR exercise, and withdraw the 2023 law will culminate in a movement at Ramlila Maidan on November 1,” Bora said.

She appealed to people to participate to “uphold the sanctity of democracy” and concluded her message with “See you there.” The Opposition alliance has called the rally over alleged “vote theft” and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition leaders, party workers, activists and citizens are expected to attend.

Support for Opposition protest

Bora’s announcement followed support from the Cockroach Janta Party, whose founder Abhijeet Dipke endorsed the protest on Wednesday. “GYANU MUST GO! The Cockroach Janta Party extends its support to the INDIA Bloc’s November 1 rally. Nation above all,” Dipke posted on X.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also appealed on Thursday for people to join the Opposition’s ‘Chalo Dilli’ march. He urged student organisations to participate regardless of their political affiliations.

During an ‘Ask Me’ session on Instagram, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition said the demonstration aimed to defend democracy, protect the Constitution and end alleged vote theft. Gandhi asked participants not to fear a police crackdown, claiming the BJP “will not have the guts to try any of their antics”.

March route and schedule

According to Gandhi, the November 1 march will start at noon from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction and end at Ramlila Maidan.

Separately, the INDIA bloc postponed its proposed “public impeachment” of Kumar from October 30 to October 31 because of bad weather. Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh announced the revised schedule on X. He said incessant rain had forced the postponement and that the event would take place at 2.30 pm on October 31, ahead of Sunday’s march.
