Sealdah station opens new central gate to de-congest platforms and ease long-distance lassenger travel
New Delhi: In an initiative aimed at improving passenger convenience and streamlining commuter traffic, Eastern Railway has introduced a new Central Gate at Sealdah Station.

Until now, passengers relied primarily on Prafulla Dwar, the North Gate, the Main Gate, and the South Gate. Because local commuters and long-distance travelers shared the same entry points, the station frequently experienced severe overcrowding during peak hours. The dedicated Central Gate addresses this bottleneck, offering long-distance passengers a direct, hassle-free route to their designated platforms without navigating local train surges.
Enhanced convenience for long-distance travellers
• Direct Access & Taxi Facility: Located right outside the new gate is a pre-paid taxi stand, making it significantly easier for arriving passengers to secure transport to their final destinations.
• Support for Vulnerable Passengers: The segregated entry route is expected to prove particularly beneficial for senior citizens, women, children, tourists, and passengers carrying heavy luggage.
• Future Amenities: Eastern Railway plans to expand facilities near the Central Gate by adding app-based cab pick-up/drop-off points and modern restroom complexes.
