Salman Khan summoned in cheating case, Chandigarh court reopens legal battle

Superstar Salman Khan and his sister Alvira Khan are summoned to appear before the Chandigarh court in connection with a cheating case involving the Being Human jewellery business, reigniting the decades-old commercial conflict.

The dispute dates back to a complaint filed by Chandigarh-based businessman Arun Gupta, who stated that he had invested nearly Rs 2-3 crore in setting up a Being Human jewellery showroom on the strength of assurances provided by the business partners.

The applicant alleged that he was misled and defrauded of crores of rupees as no support was forthcoming in terms of business development and promotions as promised, besides the interruption in the supply of jewellery.

He further alleged that Salman Khan was supposed to inaugurate the showroom as part of the deal, but it was actor Aayush Sharma who took over the assignment, which again was a breach of promise.

Earlier, the licence holder of the franchise had denied any allegations against Salman Khan and Alvira Khan, pointing out that they were not party to the agreement with Arun Gupta and had no role in the alleged cheating.

The commercial disagreement seems to have snowballed into a legal imbroglio with the latest developments likely to see Salman and Alvira appearing before the Chandigarh court. With the fresh charge sheet, the cheques vs. cheques tussle is set to enter the next phase as the court dates are likely to open up.
