‘Replicating Vijay’s playbook is not easy’: TVK on Dhanush’s political entry buzz

New Delhi: Speculation about Tamil star preparing to enter politics intensified after his fan association was renamed the Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam (Dhanush Welfare Movement). While the actor has not announced any plans to enter politics, Tamil Nadu’s ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has now responded to the speculation, giving a shoutout to Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s own journey from cinema to politics.

The Narpani Iyakkam was unveiled at a meeting in Coimbatore attended by around 3,000 office bearers. Dhanush himself was not present at the gathering, which reportedly focused on welfare activities, discipline and social responsibility.

TVK reacts to Dhanush’s political hint

Reacting to speculation over whether the organisational makeover could eventually lead to a political launch, TVK spokesperson M Sathya Kumar told NDTV, “We are happy that TVK is an inspiration for political start-ups.”

“Vijay worked for 30 years for this. It is not easy,” Sathya Kumar added.

TVK draws parallel with Vijay’s political journey

Before formally entering electoral politics, Vijay had transformed his fan network into a welfare-oriented organisation. His supporters were involved in initiatives ranging from food distribution and libraries to legal assistance, creating an organisational base that eventually became part of TVK. With Dhanush’s fan association now being repositioned as a welfare movement, comparisons with Vijay’s path have naturally followed.

However, Sathya Kumar stressed that running a political party and contesting elections requires a level of commitment that goes far beyond celebrity popularity.

“Vijay gave up acting at the peak of his career,” he said.

According to the TVK spokesperson, the party’s foundations predated its formal launch by decades, with Vijay gradually developing his fan network into a service-oriented organisation.

“Replicating Vijay’s playbook is not easy,” Kumar added.

What happened at Dhanush’s fan association meeting?

The Coimbatore gathering reportedly brought together around 3,000 office-bearers of Dhanush’s fan network. Former journalist and AIADMK MP Rabi Bernard addressed members on discipline and welfare activities, while an ISRO scientist delivered a motivational speech.
