Ranji Trophy: Ayush Badoni joins Kohli, Gambhir in elite list with consecutive double centuries

New Delhi: Delhi captain Ayush Badoni continued his excellent form in first-class cricket, smashing another double hundred to join and Gautam Gambhir in the elite list. He scored an unbeaten 210 runs against Jharkhand in their Group C clash on Tuesday.

He had also struck 217 runs against Gujarat earlier this month. His second consecutive hundred helped Delhi to score 515 runs before declaring their innings. Badoni stitched a massive 334-run partnership with Sumit Mathur, who remained unbeaten on 150 runs at the time of declaration. In response, Jharkhand reached 131/4 at stumps on Day 2, with Utkarsh Singh scoring an unbeaten 53 as Delhi took control of the match.

Badoni joins Kohli, Gambhir in elite list

With his latest double hundred, Badoni became the 21st Indian batter to score back-to-back double centuries in first-class cricket. Legendary Delhi batters Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir are among the notable names to have achieved the milestone.

Badoni’s double hundred further underlined his consistency in the longer format, where he averages over 60. After smashing 217 against Gujarat, Badoni continued the same momentum against Jharkhand, producing another sensational innings to strengthen Delhi’s position.

Badoni, Mathur rescue Delhi after early wobble

Delhi resumed Day 2 on 309/5, with Badoni and Mathur continuing to put pressure on the Jharkhand bowlers with a dominant partnership. Delhi found themselves in massive trouble at 181/5 before Badoni and Mathur shifted the momentum in their favour.

Badoni scored an unbeaten 210 off 228 deliveries, while Mathur also amassed an unbeaten 150 from 253 balls. Their 334-run partnership ensured Delhi crossed the 500-run mark. Jharkhand also got off to a poor start in their reply, losing four wickets and finishing the day at 131/4. Utkarsh Singh scored an unbeaten fifty to offer some resistance, but Jharkhand still have a lot of work to do to reduce the deficit and challenge Delhi in the match.
