President Droupadi Murmu takes 170-km train journey

Brahmapur: Droupadi Murmu made history as the first sitting President to arrive by train at Brahmapur railway station’s Platform No. 4, pulling in at 11.15 am on Tuesday. Travelling aboard a Special Presidential Train, she completed the 170-km journey from Bhubaneswar on the second day of her State visit. Murmu boarded the “President special” train, an ultra-luxury private rail car, featuring air-conditioned bedrooms, a living-cum-dining room, and a kitchen.

The President was welcomed at Brahmapur railway station by Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, ministers Bibhuti Bhushan Jena and Gokulananda Mallick, Brahmapur MP Pradeep Panigrahi, MLA K Anil Kumar, RDC Sangram Kesari Mahapatra, IG of Police (Southern Range) Niti Shekhar, Ganjam Collector V Keerthi Vasan and Brahmapur SP Saravana Vivek M.

The Special Presidential Train departed from Bhubaneswar under an unprecedented three-tier security cover. Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Odisha Police and other security agencies secured the entire route, while two escort trains accompanied the Presidential Special throughout the journey. Intensive anti-sabotage checks, track patrolling, surveillance at level crossings and strict access control at railway stations ensured a flawless operation.

At Brahmapur railway station, elaborate security arrangements were in place as senior civil, railway and police officials received the President. The station wore a festive look, with people gathering in large numbers to witness the historic arrival of the Head of the State.

Murmu later left in a high-security convoy for Taptapani to offer prayers at the revered Maa Kandhuni Devi Temple. She bypassed protocol to give chocolates to the schoolgirls waiting along the roadside to, welcome her.

The special train journey was planned in view of the prevailing monsoon conditions and is expected to be remembered as a landmark event in the history of Brahmapur railway station.
