‘Prepared To Bear Insults,’ Says Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Over Discussion With Udhayanidhi Over Cauvery Dispute

C Joseph Vijay, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, stated on Friday that he was the one who proposed discussing the Cauvery issue with neighboring Karnataka in the hopes that the move would result in a favorable end.

Speaking to the Tamil Nadu assembly, Vijay declared that he was “prepared to bear insults” if it meant initiating discussions on the Cauvery issue for the benefit of the Tamil Nadu people.

In order to start a conversation with Karnataka over the Cauvery issue for the sake of the Tamil Nadu people, the chief minister told the house that he was prepared to endure “insults.”

In response to opposition leader and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, who brought up the Cauvery issue, Vijay noted how Tamil Nadu’s strategy for resolving the conflict had changed since 1969, going from discussion to seeking legal remedies.

He stated that his government’s stance had not altered and that it was still dedicated to using the legal system to resolve the Cauvery issue. Additionally Vijay said that he intended to travel to Karnataka to talk about the Cauvery problem. “I thought, what if talks are held with the neighbouring state, as even nations that are sworn enemies hold dialogue to solve issues,” he said.

Meanwhile, Udhayanidhi Stalin requested that the government convene an all-party meeting to discuss Karnataka’s plan to construct the Mekedatu Dam on the Cauvery River during the assembly proceedings.

“In Tamil Nadu, all political parties are urging the government to convene an all-party meeting on the Mekedatu Dam issue. Everyone is asking why the Tamil Nadu government is avoiding convening an all-party meeting on this matter,” Stalin added.

However, Vijay told the assembly that his government was still completely dedicated to defending the state’s interests and declared that there was “no need” for such a gathering. He declared that the TVK-led administration will “not compromise on the rights regarding the Cauvery water issue” and denounced the opposition.
