PM Modi flags off India’s first hydrogen-powered train, marking a green rail milestone

India has taken a major step towards cleaner public transport with the launch of its first indigenously developed hydrogen fuel cell-powered train. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the service on Friday, placing India among a small group of countries using hydrogen technology for railway operations.

The train will initially run on the Jind–Sonipat section of Northern Railway as a pilot project. Indian Railways will use the service to study the performance of hydrogen-powered trains before considering their use on more routes.
