Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Sunday extended warm greetings to the people on Tamil Nadu Day, commemorating the historic reorganisation of Indian states on a linguistic basis.

In a post on ‘X’, Modi said, “The hardworking and enterprising people of Tamil Nadu have made outstanding contributions to India’s progress. From manufacturing, automobiles and textiles to electronics, space technology, healthcare and emerging industries, the state has distinguished itself through innovation, skill and industrial excellence.”
The people of Tamil Nadu take immense pride in their cultural identity and traditions. Tamil culture has enriched our nation’s civilisational journey in innumerable ways, he noted.
“May this occasion bring happiness, success and new opportunities to every person of Tamil Nadu in the times to come,” the prime minister added. In a video released by the Lok Bhavan, Governor Arlekar underscored Tamil Nadu’s stellar role in India’s developmental journey since state reorganisation.
He noted that the state’s unique blend of rich traditions, education, and robust industrial ecosystem serves as a classic example of holistic progress.
Highlighting economic achievements, the governor pointed out that Tamil Nadu currently accounts for approximately 9.4 per cent of the national GDP.
Furthermore, the state registered the second-largest GST collections in the country last year, reflecting its formidable economic strength, he added.
Chief Minister Vijay, in a social media post, urged people to celebrate the state’s distinct glory and rich heritage, while honouring the legacy of martyrs who fought to safeguard the Tamil language and territory.
“On this auspicious day marking the linguistic reorganisation of states and the formation of Tamil Nadu, I celebrate the unique pride and historical glory of our state, and extend my heartfelt Tamil Nadu Day greetings to everyone,” he said.
The CM said, “The history of the martyrs who fought to protect our mother tongue, Tamil, and to merge Tamil-inhabited regions with Tamil Nadu will forever serve as a guiding light for our identity, rights, and unity.”
