People from industry appreciated ‘Dhandha’: Director Aditya Devulapally

Recent web series Dhandha is one of the most successful shows that have made director Aditya Devulapally one of the industry’s talk in recent times. The ‘vertical series’ has not only earned the director’s name as a new face but also the show has been able to create a mark in the micro-draama segment of the industry.

Aditya spoke at length about his journey and also about his future projects. “I was an outsider to the film industry, but my hobby was acting. I had a great interest in cinema, which attracted me to pursue this field. I graduated, did mass communication and got into the industry as a creative producer,” he added. However, the director said that he had the motivation to leave engineering behind as he was one of the toppers of the college.

Aditya further said that while Vijay Kumar has written the story, he worked extensively to rework almost 40 percent of the script in order to strengthen the characters and to flesh out the story. “The biggest challenge was to keep the pace as there is no second chance and the viewership gets affected if the episode goes slow. Every frame should be engaging and the story should be compelling so that the audience continues to watch the episode without having any drop in the engagement level,” he added.

The director also admitted that Dhandha was the much-talked show as the creator has been getting the reactions and support of the audiences for telling the fresh content, engaging story, along with its music and cinematography. “Even industry people appreciated the work and said it’s one of the best vertical dramas made in Telugu,” revealed Aditya.

Aditya thanked lead actor Dora Sai Teja for being a co-operative partner in completing such a difficult task. He also commended Akshara and Nithin Prasanna for their performances and also appreciated the work done by Aswin Lenin and Rishi M.

The director clarified that Dhandha was primarily created as an entertainment show that also spreads awareness regarding cyber frauds. “The intention was to create a series based on real-time cyber-crimes happening around. However, the addition of a video message from SS Rajamouli was an honour for us rather than calling it a cameo,” he said.

Aditya further said that they are currently working on a film that is based on a 50-year-old criminal. They are also expecting the announcement within two to three months. “It’s going to be a big film for me as there are many things to be done,” added the director.
