Para Commonwealth bronze medallist KS Shilpa to receive ₹15 lakh, Group-B government job

Bengaluru: Karnataka para athlete K.S. Shilpa, who won a bronze medal at the 2026 Para Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, will be honoured with a cash reward of ₹15 lakh and a Group-B government job, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department Commissioner M.N. Anucheth announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Anucheth said Shilpa’s achievement had brought pride to Karnataka and would inspire aspiring sportspersons across the State.

He said the government had already rewarded all eight Karnataka athletes who represented India at the Glasgow Para Commonwealth Games with ₹5 lakh each for their participation. As a bronze medallist, Shilpa would receive an enhanced cash award of ₹15 lakh in recognition of her outstanding performance.

Anucheth further announced that the State Government would appoint Shilpa to a Group-B post and extend all benefits and incentives available under the government’s sports policy for medal-winning athletes.

He described the felicitation programme as an encouragement not only for Shilpa but also for other athletes striving to excel at the national and international levels. He said the para athlete’s success demonstrated that determination and hard work could overcome every challenge.

The Commissioner also said Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara would soon felicitate Shilpa separately in recognition of her contribution to Indian sports and Karnataka’s sporting achievements.

Shilpa won the bronze medal in the women’s para event at the 2026 Para Commonwealth Games, becoming one of Karnataka’s prominent medal winners at the international sporting event.
