Pakistan’s alleged Hamas-inspired terror strategy puts J&K on alert | What intelligence inputs say

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) is looking to leverage Hamas and Gaza conflicts for its terror infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Pakistan is studying Hamas -linked operational methods and seeking to adapt their strategies for terror groups in the region.

As per a report published in India Today, Pakistan is looking to expose its Punjab -based cadre of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) to operational methods of Hamas, which include operational infiltrations and urban assault techniques. The report further said that groups based in Pakistan might seek mutual exposure to Hamas cadres in areas of maritime operations.

Rawalpindi playing important role in discussions

According to intelligence inputs, Rawalakot in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) , is playing the role of an important platform for discussions between Hamas-linked groups and terrorists based in Afghanistan. As per the assessment, a meeting was held on February 5, 2025, in Rawalakot, and the Hamas-led Gaza conflict. During the meeting, Hamas representatives appeared along with LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) representatives.

The inputs by intelligence officials in India have indicated that the strategy is aimed at support networks and online radicalisation. Security agencies are also studying terror groups efforts to reach out to Indian youth through social media and religious platforms.

Compact weapons are being used underground

The intelligence inputs have also noted that compact weapons are being used underground since as compared to conventional arms, they could be concealed more easily. The inputs have also pointed towards recovery of compact Turkish-origin firearms from terror hideouts in the Poonch-Rajouri sector in 2023-24.

The assessment suggested availability of lightweight weapons to facilitate motility of small terror cells in hard terrains. The assessment noted that ISI might be looking for more control over terror infrastructure in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
