‘Modi ka baap bhi jayega’: Kharge loses temper at Patna event after heckler interruption

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lost his temper during a public event in Patna on Sunday after an attendee interrupted his speech to shout that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not going anywhere. Visible friction flared up instantly, with Kharge firing back from the stage, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega”.

The heated exchange took place at the 139th birth anniversary event of Bihar’s first chief minister, Dr Shri Krishna Singh. The Congress veteran quickly turned his fire on the Prime Minister, claiming Modi has a habit of making hollow promises. Questioning the Centre on its anti-corruption pitch, Kharge asked what happened to the pledge of bringing back illicit overseas funds.

“PM Modi has a habit of telling lies. He had said that he would bring back black money in his first 100 days. I want to ask, where is that money?” he said.

The remark triggered an immediate counter-offensive from the BJP. Union Home Minister Amit Shah hit out at Kharge, accusing the Congress president of crossing all limits of public decorum by making an indecent personal reference to the Prime Minister’s late father.

Kharge hits out at RSS ideology

Moving forward with his address, Kharge mounted a scathing critique of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), arguing that peace would remain distant in the country as long as the outfit’s ideological sway persists.

Defending his constant attacks on the organisation, Kharge said, “If we speak about the RSS today, people might interpret it differently… well, the reason you are being targeted is that you have been engaged in this very same activity ever since your inception – that is why you are being targeted.” He added that real communal harmony would not return under its watch, further alleging that the RSS and BJP remain full of people harbouring notions of untouchability that clash directly with the Constitution.

‘Weakened’ Nitish abandoned socialist roots

Kharge also took a swipe at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for aligning with the BJP-led NDA, pointing out that the JD(U) chief had parted ways with his original political moorings.

Expressing disappointment, Kharge said, “It saddens me that Nitish Kumar, who entered the political scene carrying the ideology of the Socialist Party, has ended up in the lap of the BJP and the RSS.” He remarked that this shift reflects what happens when an individual weakens and lets go of foundational political principles.
