Man dies after jumping onto Namma Metro tracks at Huskur station; yellow line services partially suspended

New Delhi: A man died after allegedly jumping onto the tracks at Huskur Metro Station on the Namma Metro Yellow Line on Sunday evening, prompting the temporary suspension of metro services on a section of the corridor.

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Hiremath, a native of Raichur. According to officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the incident occurred at around 5:50 pm.

Metro staff immediately switched off the power supply and initiated rescue operations after Rajesh reportedly jumped onto the tracks. However, he became trapped beneath an approaching train and was declared dead at the scene.

Police and senior BMRCL officials reached the station soon after the incident and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

According to preliminary information, Rajesh had previously worked with the English-language YouTube channel of News First Prime and had left the organisation about a year ago. Police are also looking into reports that he had been experiencing mental health-related difficulties in recent months.

The body was recovered by metro personnel and Hebbagodi Police before being shifted to the mortuary at St. John’s Hospital for further procedures. South-East Division DCP Mohammed Sujeetha also visited the station to review the situation.

Following the incident, BMRCL suspended metro services between Electronic City and Bommasandra, affecting operations across five stations on the Yellow Line. Train services continued to operate between R.V. Road and Electronic City, while passengers were advised to make alternate travel arrangements.

BMRCL expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and said normal services on the affected section would resume after completion of the necessary procedures and safety checks.

Separately, police and fire department personnel rescued a man who climbed a large crane at an under-construction metro site near Marathahalli in the early hours of Sunday. Officials used another crane to safely bring him down before taking him into police custody. The reason for the incident is under investigation.
