Lagaan and Ghajini actor Pradeep Rawat dies after cancer battle at 74

New Delhi: Actor Pradeep Rawat, who starred in films such as Sarfarosh, Ghajini, and Lagaan, passed away on August 4, 2026, at the age of 74.

The news was confirmed by Lagaan actor Yashpal Sharma who mourned the death of his co-actor and wrote on Instagram, “Pradeep Rawat. Our Gajhni and Deva of Lagaan. RIP.”

Pradeep Rawat dies

According to NDTV report, actress Roshni Achreja confirmed the news of Pradeep Rawat’s demise and revealed that he had been battling cancer for a long time. He was initially undergoing treatment at Kokilaben Hospital and was later shifted to another hospital, where he breathed his last.

Who was Pradeep Rawat?

Born on January 21, 1952, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, he began his acting career and gained early recognition for playing Ashwatthama, the son of Dronacharya, in the BR Chopra’s iconic television series Mahabharat.

He later appeared in several Hindi film before becoming a popular face in South Indian cinema.

He is known for his performances in Sarfarosh, where he played the role of Sultan, Lagaan, wher he essayed the role of Deva Singh Sodhi, Ghajini, where he ruthless villain Ghajini Dharmatma. He also played the villain in the original Tamil version of Ghajini. He also appeared in Sye, which was a major breakthrough in Telugu cinema and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Villain (Telugu).

He has appeared in several south movies, including Yogi, Panchkshari, Thotti Jaya, Naayak, Rebel, Nenu Sailaja, Chatrapathi, Eli, among others.
