Just a bad smell! Spider-Man: Brand New Day screening evacuated after ‘fart attack’

New Delhi: In hilarious turn of events, a screening in Cartagena, Columbia was abruptly evacuated on Sunday (August 2) night after a rogue smell filled the theatres, driving hundreds of audiences out.

While, the exact source of the odor was never officially identified, reports suggested that it was either a deliberate prank involving a stink bomb or fart spray, or an audience member who just couldn’t make it to the restroom in time.

In a video on X (formerly Twitter) shared by an account “@ExxAlerts showed audiences walking towards corridor and out of the cinema hall, with many covering their noses with their hands. The account captioned it, “ALERT: ‘Horrific fart attack’ sent moviegoers running out of the theater in the middle of the new ‘Spider-Man.’”

While cinema hall staff did not officially cancel the screening and other auditoriums kept running the show without any interruption. No injuries were reported.

Later, some viewers eventually attempted to return and finish the film, and most of them made it back before the credits rolled, according to New York Post.

A person dressed as Spider-Man was captured in the evacuation footage, standing in the hallway alongside the fleeing crowd. He later entertained the displaced audiences in the lobby while the situation was being sorted out.

is having a phenomenal run at the box office. The film reportedly crossed USD 1 billion mark within days of its release and is eyeing to cross USD 2.1 billion global haul in the upcoming days.

In India, the film registered biggest opening weekend for any Hollywood movie and the second-biggest global opening, just behind Avengers: Endgame. The film’s total net collection is at Rs 281.75 crore and total gross collection is Rs 336.91 crore in India.

The film is set to release in IMAX screens on August 7 in India.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film stars Tom Holland, Zendeya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florench Pugh, and Mark Ruffalo.
