Jharkhand Government And Students Began Their Sixth Round Of Talks Amid Ongoing Protest

Students protesting for the irregularities in recruitment exams and the Jharkhand government started a sixth round of discussion on Sunday, August 9.

Six protesters are on an indefinite hunger strike as the demonstration enters its sixteenth day, and the sixth session of discussion is taking place in the state guest house in Ranchi.

By launching another round of talks with student organisations, the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch accused the Jharkhand government of “political manoeuvring,” claiming the move was intended to split protesting students and deflect attention away from their main demands.

According to PTI sources, a student leader said “We are hopeful of a positive outcome over our demand of cancelling the 14th Jharkhand PSC Civil Services Examination and reforms in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).”

The protest began as students began gathering at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium on July 23. They came with notebooks, and plastic folders with admit cards from exams that had, for many of them, shaped almost ten years of their lives. Their demands were simple as they wanted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct an independent investigation, cancel all exams compromised by charges of corruption, and reform the state’s hiring process.
